The LuK Story. 50 years of quality, technology and innovation.
LuK Company HQ in Bühl
“Women drivers” was something many men had trouble imagining until well into the 1960s. Aside from any ideological considerations, they liked to cite the fact that women were too physically weak to work the clutch pedal.
By the early 1970s that reason had ceased to apply – thanks to the success of the much lighter-weight, more manoeuvrable “diaphragm clutch” that was a feature of the VW Beetle. The diaphragm clutch was developed by the German automotive supply company LuK, which now forms part of the Schaeffler Group. We were commissioned to create a modular travelling exhibition to mark the company’s 50th anniversary on the basis of a concept developed by the Birke und Partner communications agency. We used everything from original car parts, historic photos, explanatory videos and interactive exhibits to a clearly visible, visitor-operated car gearbox to showcase their ground-breaking innovations in the automotive industry. A “feet-on” exhibit, (a close relative of the popular “hands-on” type), which allows visitors to experience the difference between a steel-pressure and a diaphragm clutch, was also a must in this case. Designed in modular form from the outset, the exhibition was unveiled in the company’s anniversary year 2015 at LuK HQ in Bühl, before continuing on its journey to other locations of the Schaeffler Group.
